Get Involved
You can join with us by:
Donating Books
We are always in the process of filling the next shipping container of books bound for Uganda. Our criteria for books are: English language only, new or gently-used, age appropriate for toddlers – teens, and do not contain excessive violence or sexuality. If you have books to donate, send us an email!
Collecting Books
We often have schools who donate books and we need volunteers to pick the boxes up and bring them to the shipping container. If you’ve available on an as needed basis and are willing to drive to schools during school hours to pick up books, send us an email!
Packing Books
Before a box of books is packed into the shipping container, it needs to be sorted, packed tightly, and weighed. If you’re available on an as needed basis and can lift boxes of 30+ lbs, send us an email!
Writing Books
We are currently developing a pilot program for classes of students in Canada to create books that can be published in Uganda and sent to our literacy centres. Students in Uganda will then also have the opportunity to create and publish books that can be sent back to classrooms in Canada. If you’re a teacher who is interested in working with us on this pilot program, send us an email!
Fundraising for Books
The desire for books in Uganda is strong and as we continue to partner with more and more wonderful people doing powerful work of supporting literacy, we learn of more and more places that would love to have a literacy centre. If you’d like to help with fundraising for more literacy centres, send us an email!
Traveling with Books
Each year, we travel with a team to Uganda and area. We arrive in Uganda as teachers, as nurses, as students and as interested citizens, but we always leave as members of the community. We are always searching for people who have the spirit of giving and who want to share their knowledge and experience with like-minded peers in Uganda. If you are interested in joining one of our groups, please download (as a sample) the Volunteer-Travel-Application the FAQ and the Team 2020 Fact Sheet. Although these will change on a trip-to-trip basis, the information will ground you in what we do and what you can expect if you make the life-altering decision to travel to Uganda with Niteo.
