Last July we hosted a 3 day literacy training in partnership with Read For Life Uganda. Betty was one of the participants in this training. As she has limited email and no whatsapp, we hadn’t heard much from Betty since last July.
This August, we hosted the 2nd level of training and Betty was back! She shared how she has been teaching what she learned to the children in her community. She is not a paid teacher – she is a passionate member of her community who believes in building bridges to bright and hopeful futures through literacy.
“My life has changed as a result of this training. I didn’t know the things that we were taught. But I am now sharing what I learned with the children in my community. I am now called ‘Teacher Betty.’ I have a new name!”
We can’t wait to hear what Betty will do next!
Thank you for supporting leaders like Betty through your generous support of our 55 Leaders Campaign. We were able to coordinate 3 trainings for teachers and community volunteers this August in Wakiso, Kiryandongo, and Gulu.
