Do you ever feel overwhelmed by the challenges of our world?
The magnitude and complexity of global issues can feel so daunting.
I recently read Homegoing, the beautifully written book by Yaa Gyasi. I was gripped by her telling of the generational scars that colonization and the slave trade caused for entire nations, peoples, and families. Alongside the swirl of emotions that rose within while reading, I kept asking myself: Where do we go from here?
For we know the story is not finished. The continent of Africa should be one of the wealthiest continents in our world and yet it continues to be pillaged for its resources by economic superpowers and the unjust systems of which we all play a part.
But rather than despair or turn away, I want to lean in.
I want to be part of the good, the beautiful, and the hopeful.
NITEO is a Latin word which means to thrive, to flourish, to shine bright.
NITEO Africa is about being a part of paving a way for bright, flourishing, and hope-filled futures for children. As an organization we are leaning in to the complexities and challenges of global development and partnerships because we believe there is always hope to be found.
“Education is the most powerful weapon you can use to change the world.” Nelson Mandela’s words continue to ring true today. And one of the foundational pillars in educational success is literacy – the ability to read.
Open books. Open minds. Open doors.
